When I got out to the farm yesterday afternoon I had to take this picture. Normally when I finish combining corn I put my 4430 on the 20-foot stalk chopper and then rent Chad's big John Deere tractor and ripper. It is fun to be out there in the nice warm cab with the tractor driving itself across the field. Yes, Chad's John Deere 8400 has a hands-free guidance system on it. At my dad's funeral, my uncle Roger asked me if I wanted them to go at chopping and ripping for me when they were finished with theirs. I said that would be great.

With everything going on this fall it was time to be DONE! In previous years my dad had seen this equipment in the field. I was thinking about the changes he had seen in his lifetime. He did not farm with horses but he did remember driving a John Deere Model D. My grandpa did farm with horses. What would he think if he saw these tractors with computers communicating with satellites to guide them across the field?
