On Saturday I loaded up the new station vehicle with P.A. equipment and went to Kasson for the High Honors Pig and Sheep Auction. I've been handling sound for Steve Resler's highly successful auctions for the past few years and always enjoy being a part of the event.

I arrived at the Dodge County Fairgrounds about 45 minutes before the auction to get all the sound equipment set up for the noon start. This year, as in past years, the weather was very cooperative  and there was a good turnout. Most of the participants are families and they're looking for a good young hog, sheep or goat to raise to show in area fairs. They always have plenty of healthy animals to choose from, which are kept in the holding pens behind the auction podium and then brought out into an arena for the buyers to bid on. The bidding is usually fast and competitive and it's fun to see the looks on the kids faces when they get the animal they want.

Part of the reason I enjoy being there is the chance to chat with the people that come out for this event, some of them I see every year, others I'm meeting for the first time. Another reason it's something I like doing is the delicious feed that's put on. They serve up delicious BBQ shredded pork sandwiches, pickles, chips and a variety of homemade desserts. I'll admit it, I go back for seconds, it's so good I always have to have more. I find it to be a very relaxing way to spend my Saturday.
