Guilty Plea in Red Wing Murder Case
A Red Wing man’s murder trial was scheduled to get underway today at the Goodhue County Courthouse in Red Wing. Instead, 27-year-old Charles Deonta Jones entered into a plea agreement to settle the charges filed against him following a fatal shooting in Red Wing in April of last year.
Jones admitted to a second-degree murder charge and a felony dangerous weapon charge for the discharge of a firearm in a city. 7 other charges stemming from the death of Deangelo Masterjohn, including another count of second-degree murder, along with third-degree murder, 2nd-degree manslaughter, and second-degree assault were dismissed as part of the plea deal.
Jones was accused of shooting Masterjohn in the chest at close range in the early morning hours of April 19th. The victim was found dead on the sidewalk in a residential neighborhood near downtown Red Wing later that morning, while Jones was arrested after leading police on a high-speed chase in Wisconsin.
He is scheduled to be sentenced on May 9th.
