If your stomach desires a delicious, juicy burger you may want to grab your passport and head to Ontario, Canada. Don't plan on a beef burger though, as McDonald's new P.L.T. is an entirely plant-based product. And, if a plant burger isn't enough vegetation for you, don't worry, lettuce, tomato, and onion accompany your "burger".

CBS News reports that 28 McDonalds across Ontario, Canada will be testing the @beyondmeat burger. For the bargain price of $6.49 Canadian dollars, that converts to $4.87 in U.S. dollars, you can try one for yourself. Don't wait long as the product will only be on the menu for twelve short weeks.

Beyond Meat couldn't be more excited, as CNBC reports that their stock soared 11% after McDonald's made their announcement.

Vegans beware though, as the P.L.T. is not considered a vegan product as it is cooked on the same grills as the regular beef patties.

If a trip to Canada is not in the cards, stay tuned. Perhaps McDonald's will add the P.L.T. to its more than 14,000 U.S. locations or maybe even expand to its more than 38,000 locations in over 100 countries? McDonald's does seem to be falling behind as many U.S. based fast-food restaurants have already added plant-based products to their menus in the United States. Burger King boasts the Meatless Whopper and KFC is now serving Beyond Meat's meatless chicken.

The popularity of plant-based products is soaring across the U.S. and companies must keep moving forward to meet the needs of its customers. Keeping loyal customers coming back for more seems to be the motivation for menu evolution.

These pea or soy-based products surprisingly do a wonderful job mimicking both the taste and texture of real meat, so don't be afraid to try something new.
