Get Ready To Pay MORE For Christmas Trees and Decorations
It is going to cost more this year to make your home look festive for the holidays. Large sellers of Christmas items like artificial trees and ornaments say they are hiking their prices by double digits in 2021, due to high shipping costs and ongoing issues with the national supply chain.
KETV reports that Balsam Hill, a tree company out of California, says that they will be raising prices on trees and other holiday items by 20%, and that still won't their own costs because they're paying up to 300% more per shipping container in 2021. Months of shipping stoppages due to factory shutdowns in pandemic stricken countries have caused delays in the shipping of all kinds of products. Now you can add Christmas to the list...so to speak.
Suppliers are also nervous if they'll have enough products on hand to meet the demand. KETV reports National Tree Company out of New Jersey, is a large holiday retailer that sells to the likes of Wal-Mart, Target, and Amazon. The company's CEO says that they expect demand to be up 25% this holiday season. That could equal 1.5 million to 2 million orders for artificial trees. But due to shipping delays, especially out of China, he's afraid orders might not be able to be met.
Treetime, a holiday tree and decorations company out of Illinois, told KETV that their shipping costs have skyrocketed by 500% this year. They're absorbing most of the cost, but will be raising their prices by around 20% too. They're also watching the supply chain. Treetime says if they don't have product in by Thanksgiving, it could be a long holiday season.
