Donut forget! Friday, June 3, is going to be a sweet day because it's National Donut Day!

While it seems there are many new food and beverage holidays showing up every day, National Donut Day has been around for quite some time. Started by the Salvation Army in 1938, Doughnut Day began as a way to honor volunteers who served doughnuts to soldiers during the first World War. The event has grown and is now celebrated widely. Many donut chain restaurants offer free or discounted donuts each year on the first Friday of June.

If you're looking to score some donuts in the Faribault area, here are the deals I found:

  • The Coffee Shop and Chocolate Haven is giving two free mini donuts with the purchase of a drink.
  • Fareway Bakery is charging $7.99 per dozen donuts with a limit of two dozen.
  • Hy-Vee is offering a nine-pack of donut puffs for $1.
  • Kwik Trip is offering three Glazer donuts for $1, or a free donut with coupon.

Happy National Donut Day!
