With Waseca’s Hy-Vee closing at the end of September some people were a little nervous as to where they were going to get groceries. Have no fear Waseca as Central Minnesota based Coburn's has opened up a Cash Wise grocery store just about two weeks after Hy-Vee closed.

Waseca's new Cash Wise will be having their grand-opening next Thursday, October 25th. Cash Wise's arrival/opening this past Wednesday, with a soft-opening, wasn't without some drama as the former store was at the State Street location for over 30 years previously.

The building's owner, Dixon Diebold sued Hy-Vee in 2017 claiming the grocery chain was neither making rental payments nor maintaining the building as required by their lease. Hy-Vee claimed the maintenance that was expected by the landlord wasn’t within the lease agreement’s scope. The situation resolved itself between Hy-Vee and the landlord as he opted not to renew Hy-Vee’s lease when it expired this fall.

Cash Wise’s next nearest locations are in Owatonna and New Ulm, with seven total stores in Minnesota. The building Cash Wise will be moving into has existing space for a deli, pharmacy, and bakery among other features. Cash Wise also will operate a liquor store adjacent to the grocery store.
