Faribault Fire Chief Dustin Dienst sent out a press release earlier this morning about a fire that happened at 31 3rd Street NE in Faribault, which is the building that houses Redemption restaurant, one of Faribault's newest downtown businesses, and assorted apartments above.

According to the press release the Faribault Fire Department, Faribault Police Department, Rice County Sheriff's Office, and North Memorial Ambulance all responded at 3:32 am on August 7, 2021, to a fire alarm at 31 3rd St. NE.  Prior to the responder’s arrival residents of the building reported to emergency dispatch that they could smell something burning.   When police officers arrived they reported that they could see flames and a lot of smoke on the first floor.

Law Enforcement evacuated residents from the 2nd and 3rd floors while firefighters knocked down the flames. The fire was located near the wood-fired oven in the kitchen.  Walls were opened up and hot spots in the ductwork and in the walls were extinguished.  Firefighters cleared the scene at 5:47 am.

The Faribault Fire Department conducted an investigation and determined that the cause of the fire was combustible materials stored too close to a cooking appliance.

Fire Chief Dustin Dienst commented, “I am happy to report that no one was injured as a result of this fire.  Even though there is some damage to the business, the systems installed to limit the damage of fire did exactly that.”

It's unclear at this time how long Redemption may have to be closed to clean up from the fire and repair the damage done when opening up the walls to extinguish the blaze.
