Junior Paul Sadergaski is swimming in the finals in the 50 free and 100-yard butterfly today at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center in Minneapolis.

Sadergaski entered the tournament with the fastest qualifying time in the 100-yard butterfly and beat that time to have the fastest time heading into the finals at 50.42.

There are a lot of Big Nine Conference guys in those finals.

  • Senior Ben Walker of Austin was third in preliminaries Friday.
  • Red Wing sophomore William Meachem was sixth.
  • Seth Clasen, a senior from Austin, was eighth.
  • Junior Josh Hamond of Mankato East was ninth
  • Sophomore Mitchell Mayer of Austin was 13th.

The only other state qualifier for Faribault was the 200-yard medley relay team composed of sophomores and Sadergaski. They did not make the finals cut, placing 17th.

In addition to Sadergaski, other members of the relay team were sophomores Carter Howell, Adam Rechtzigel and Derek Bokelmann.

Northfield junior diver Jack Cuddy is in second place heading into today's diving finals with 299.10 points. The leader is senior Nathan Stone of Simley with a score of 314.95. Senior Derek Prenot of Winona is fourth with a 295.05 score.

Northfield's 400 free relay team placed 12th and the 200-yard relay 16th. Northfield junior Eric Lundstrom was 11th in the 500-yard free.

Class A Swimming and Diving Finals begin at noon today and the Class AA at 6PM.
