Faribault Volleyball Overcomes Shaky Start in Win Over Austin
The Faribault Falcons volleyball team improved their Big Nine record to 7-2 after a 3-1 win over Austin Tuesday night at Nomeland Gym. The Falcons had 14 errors in the first set and lost 25-19 before winning the next three sets by scores of 25-21, 25-15, 25-14.
Faribault Head Coach JoAnna Lane has been concerned all season about the slow starts in matches. There is not one senior on the Falcons roster but Lane is not buying that as the source of her team's inconsistent play.
Our Faribault State Farm Insurance agents Faribault players of the match were juniors Payton Evanstad, Bennett Wolff , Hannah Cunniff and sophomore Olivia Bauer. Evanstad led the team with 22 kills. At one point the setter recorded a tip kill, a dump kill and a crushing blow for a kill. Bennett Wolff had 9 kills. Bauer tallied 9 kills. Cunniff was exceptional at keeping the ball off the floor and the offense moving.
Cunniff recorded 20 digs, Wolff 16 digs, Bauer 15 digs and Evanstad 13 digs. Evanstad added 15 assists and Wolff 14 assists. The official statistics had Evanstad hitting .308 for the night.
Faribault is now 11-11 overall and plays at Winona Thursday before returning home Tuesday for a match against Owatonna. The Packers are at Owatonna Thursday then host Red Wing Tuesday.
