A Faribault man and a Wisconsin woman have been sentenced in the May shooting of a rural Colfax man, that stemmed from the Faribault man thinking his methamphetamine had been stolen.

35-year-old Shawn H. Goplen of Faribault was convicted on Nov. 6 of shooting a man over suspected stolen methamphetamine in the town of Tainter, Wisconsin. The judge in the case sentenced Goplen to five years in prison, according to online court records. He must also undergo five years of extended supervision, after his release. Goplen will receive 160 days credit for jail time served.

Goplen was convicted of two felonies in the case: second-degree recklessly endangering safety and possessing a firearm as a felon. A felony battery charge and a misdemeanor were dismissed.

Goplen shot the victim in the leg with a .40-caliber handgun after accusing him of stealing his methamphetamine on May 27, according to the Dunn County News.

Previously sentenced in the case was 36-year-old Kari Blank of Ellsworth, Wisconsin who witnessed the shooting but left the house with Goplen without helping Sundstrom or calling the police. Blank received 6 months probation after being convicted of felony methamphetamine possession in September, according to the Dunn County News.
