Jerimiah John Smith is charged in Rice County with theft by swindle. Investigators say fundraisers and a GoFundMe web page for Smith generated $23,000 to help cover his alleged medical expenses. He reportedly spent the money on video games and marijuana and pay off some credit cards.

According to court record's, Smith's wife became suspicious when she was not able to find any medical records, that backed up his story. Rice County Attorney John Fossum said that when Smith was questioned by the police about the information, he said he would produce it. But he never did.

Investigators then got a search warrant and then found out that Smith did not have cancer.

He currently does not have an attorney, and faces a felony conviction. But because he has no criminal history, he may not see any jail time.
