The Faribault Lakers got a good starting pitching performance from Jack Helgeson and used aggressive base running to defeat the Veseli Warriors 5-3 Thursday night.

It was the final game of the regular season for the 2017 Dakota Rice Scott League champions.

The Lakers got the bad taste out of their mouths of a 12-0 loss to New Prague on Wednesday night and some of the players admitted to me there really isn't much to play for right now. They did want to end the season with a win and conclude the regular season with an impressive 20-9 record.

Thursday night veteran Laker Adam Kline played eight of the nine positions in the field. The only position he did not play was catcher and, being an old catcher, I had to rib him a bit about that after the game.

Faribault's first playoff game is scheduled for Sunday, July 30 at home.

The top four teams in the DRS standings receive a first-round bye.

Faribault clinches the top seed. With their win over Faribault on Wednesday night, New Prague clinches one of the top four spots. New Market and Union Hill are the other two contenders for a top four spot.

According to the DRS League standings on their website, St. Patrick and Montgomery also have a shot at a top four seed.
