Faribault Girls Hockey Wins Again
The Faribault Falcon girls hockey team is getting used to something: Winning!
Thursday night they tallied three power play goals on their way to a 5-1 victory over Mankato East/Loyola at All Seasons Arena in Mankato.
All Seasons places broadcasters at the end of the rink (not in the middle) and has no speaker on the end, so you can't hear when they announce the goals very well.
At 2:57 into the game, Falcon junior Alexis Ferris started the scoring with an assist from senior Madison Beaupre. It was the seventh goal of the year for Ferris and Beaupre's fifth assist.
Sophomore Allyson McCoshen scored at 7:02 of the first and Beaupre collected her fourth goal of the season on a shot from the right point on the power play at 11:44.
Beaupre's goal came right off the face off after a nice pass from Payton Putrah and a Ferris win of the draw.
Faribault led 3-0 after the first period despite being out-shot in the period, according to my unofficial tally of 10-6. All Seasons has no shots on goal on their scoreboard.
Mankato East/Loyola would score the only goal of the second period in what was a lackluster offensive period for Faribault. The Falcons did not have many shots on goal.
The third period was a different story, with Faribault adding two more power play goals.
McCoshen got her third goal of the year on an assist from sophomore Payton Putrah at 11:38, and less than a minute later Putrah got her seventh goal of the season.
Faribault went into the game with a power play scoring at a 10 percent clip and Mankato East/Loyola was 12 percent.
The Falcons killed off four penalties in the game and had a two-person advantage during a stretch in the third period.
Mankato East/Loyola dropped to 1-8 and the Falcons are now 7-0-2 overall and 7-0 in the league.
Our Faribault State Farm Insurance Agents Jason Krohn and Tony Langerud Falcons of the game were senior goalie Lauren Werner, who turned away point-blank shot after point-blank shot in the first period and had 19 saves by my count, and multiple point scorers on the night Payton Putrah, Allyson McCoshen and Madison Beaupre.
Friday night Faribault hosts Fairmont at the Faribault Ice Arena. The varsity drops the puck at 7:30PM.
