Hastings, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Twin Cities man has been given consecutive sentences that total over 47 years in prison for killing two people by running them over in a minivan last year.

38-year-old Jonna Armartey pleaded guilty in August to two counts of second-degree murder for the deaths of 58-year-old Diane and 74-year-old Roger Peterson of Eagan. Prosecutors said the couple was out for a walk during an evening in late June of last year when they were struck by a minivan driven by Armartey.

He sped away from the scene but was arrested after the vehicle was found parked less than a mile away. The criminal complaint says Armartey told investigators that he saw the victims walking and they "freaked him out" so he ran them over "going fast and hit him hard."

The sentencing order issued by a Dakota County judge did give the Eagan man credit for the year and four months he has spent in jail since his arrest.
