Saturday evening I was at the Dakota County Fair to do some 4-H interviews. In addition I was the "Official" BBQ Contest Judge at the Dakota County Fair. How did I get that job? You just have to know the right people like Olive Huff. Contestants must prepare their BBQ entries at the Dakota County Fair. There are a number of classes, rips, beef, pork and chicken.

It is always fun to talk with the winners and have them explain how they prepared their entries and any little tips or secrets. Sometimes they have a special family recipe that has been passed down for generations. Sometimes it is a special BBQ recipe they developed themselves.

In the picture is Nick Bisping and Jeff Pederson. Nick is going to be a freshman at Northfield High School this fall. Nick came up with his own BBQ recipe that was fantastic! I suspect Nick has a career as a chef in his future! The other winner Jeff from Lakeville just retired. For many decades Jeff has enjoyed grilling and experimenting with new cuts of meat and BBQ recipes. Having just retired now he has more time to enjoy grilling!
