It seems local Farmers Markets continue to grow in popularity as more consumers look for local produced food. Minnesota has a Cottage Food Law that regulates food sold at local Farmers Markets and others involved in direct marketing. The Minnesota Department of Agriculture is responsible for regulating and implementing Minnesota's Cottage Food Law.

There is a class coming up called Keep it Legal! Keep it Safe Cottage Food Producer. It will be held in Minneapolis on Tuesday January 21, 2020 from 1:00 to 5:00 pm at the U of M Robert J. Jones Urban Research and Outreach Center. The class will be led by University of Minnesota Extension Food Safety Educator Kathy Brandt.

The class will focus on food safety practices for all process covered under the Cottage Food Law. The class meets the Minnesota Department of Agriculture food safety requirements to register as a Minnesota Food Producer products. The cost is $50.
