A Waseca woman was formally charged today with a near-fatal stabbing in Owatonna earlier this week.
34-year-old Tierrah Wells is facing second-degree attempted murder and first-degree assault charges for allegedly stabbing 42-year-old Charles Ellis in the chest with a kitchen knife in the early morning hours of March 30th. Her conditional bail was set at $250,000.
The criminal complaint says Owatonna police officers responded to a report of a violent domestic dispute at an apartment around 3:45 Tuesday morning and found the victim bleeding from multiple stab wounds to his chest. The officers indicated the man stopped breathing while they were administering first aid but they were able to revive him before he was transported from the scene by ambulance and then airlifted to St. Mary's hospital with what were described as life-threatening injuries.
Two men were in the apartment with the stabbing victim and told Owatonna police that Ellis had been stabbed by his girlfriend during an argument. The officers also learned the victim had previously taken out an order of protection against Wells. The court document also indicates the couple's two young children, ages four and five, were in the apartment when the stabbing occurred. While speaking with a social worker later the same day, one of the young boys stated his mother had poked his father twice with a knife.
