Chanhassen Wins Third Straight Class B State Baseball Title
The Chanhassen Red Birds scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 8th inning to secure a 4-3 victory over the Moorhead Brewers and their third straight Class B Minnesota Amateur Baseball title.
Moorhead had taken a 3-2 lead in the top of the 7th inning in Shakopee. The Red Birds smacked 4 extra base hits. Doubles by Michael Jurgella, Zach Hoffmann and Nick Smith and a two run home run by Brandon Arnold. They made the most of their 5 hits.
The Brewers had 9 hits in the contest.
Thomas Thompson threw the first 6 2/3 innings for Chanhassen. He gave up 6 hits, 2 earned runs, fanned 2 and walked a batter. Chris Coles earned the victory while going 1 1/3 innings. Coles scattered 3 hits but allowed no runs and Miles Nablo got the save for the Red Birds with a perfect final inning and two strikeouts.
In six trips to the state tournament Chanhassen has 3 titles and a second place finish over the last four years. The Red Birds finished second in 2017, won titles in 2018, 2019 and now 2020.
Moorhead made their 20th trip to state. They finished third in Class C in 2004. According to the Minnesota Baseball Association program the Brewers were second in Class B in 2010, 2015, 2016, 2017 and now 2020. They also list Moorhead as a third place finisher in 2014 and 2018.
