Body Of Fillmore County Man Recovered From Root River Identified
The body of a Fillmore County man that was recovered in the Root River yesterday has been identified.
Search and rescue teams recovered the body of a Fillmore County man in the Root River near Peterson yesterday, and according to the Fillmore County Sheriff's Office, he has been indented as 58-year-old William Michel, of Rushford.
Fillmore County Sheriff Chief Deputy Lance Boyum said in a press release that the official cause of death will be determined pending an autopsy.
Yesterday, the Fillmore County Sheriff's Office issued a release that said the sheriff's office received a report around midnight that a man's friend had gone fishing alone on the river, and had not returned home. A search operation was conducted and just before 1:30 p.m. the man's body was located in the Root River between Peterson and Rushford by Minnesota DNR Officers using an airboat, a short distance downstream from the man's flotation raft.
The search was led by the Rushford Fire Department, assisted by the Minnesota DNR, Winona County Dive Rescue Team, the Houston Fire Department, the Rushford Police Department, and the Fillmore County Sheriff’s Office.
