The big draw at the Minnesota Soybean Research and Promotion Council tent at Farmfest of course will be the huge 6 wheel drive Biodiesel Pickup. However, there will be a lot of other exciting things going on at the Minnesota Soybean Research and Promotion Council tent concerning new uses for soybean oil. By the way the Minnesota Soybean Research and Promotion tent has a new location this year 620.

One of the exciting new uses for soybean oil is on our roads. Executive Director of Minnesota Soybean Tom Slunecka told me when soybean oil is used on blacktop roads the useful life is greatly extended. I remember a while back a County Highway engineer said repaving a county blacktop road costs about a million dollars a mile. If you can get a few more years of service out of a blacktop road it could save counties a lot of money.

I do not know if soybean oil is applied on the blacktop or if it is used in the manufacturing process. I plan on stopping by the Minnesota Soybean Tent to find out more about all the new uses that have been developed for soybean oil. That Biodiesel Pickup needs good roads to drive on, but then we all need good roads. See you at Farmfest.
