Bethlehem Academy’s Avery Hunt in Class A State Track Meet
Faribault Bethlehem Academy junior Avery Hunt has been plagued by a heel injury the past few weeks but still qualified for this weekend's state track and field meet in St. Paul.
Hunt is competing in the triple jump, and I can't even imagine trying to make a attempt let alone qualify for state with a painful heel. Hunt's seed mark is 43-feet-1.75-inches and the top mark is 46-feet-1-inch by senior Eric VanErp of Ottertail Central.
Unfortunately last year's champion, Noah Carlson of Rushford-Peterson, is unable to defend his title due to a tear of his hamstring; last year he won with a distance of 48-feet-2-inches, just six and a half inches off the Class A state record set by Ed Hegland of Appleton/Milan in 1987.
The national high school record is 52-feet-10.5-inches set in 1980 by Charles Mayfield of Pasadena Muir High School.
