The Faribault Bethlehem Academy Cardinals traveled to Mapleton Tuesday night and came home after falling 8-3.  At one point in the game the Cardinals had a 3-1 lead.  Earlier this season the Eagles flew by Bethlehem Academy 14-0 in Faribault.  Cardinals Head Coach Maren Viland saw her team make some very nice plays defensively but they couldn't crank out enough offense in the contest.

For example Bethlehem Academy had the bases loaded with nobody out in the 6th inning and did not score.  Maple River opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning when their #7 hitter Annabelle Barr opened the inning with a single and went to second base on a wild pitch.  Following a strikeout #9 hitter Morgan Schendel connected for an RBI single.  The next batter Gabby Drews hit the ball right at shortstop Kate Trump who threw the ball to first base to get the runner trying to get back to the bag for an inning ending double play.

The Cardinals scored their three runs in the top of the 4th inning.  With one out designated player Nicole Menard was on base following an error.  Seventh grader Brooke Racine went in to run for Menard.  Second Baseman Maggie Viland connected for a single placing runners at first and second.  Third baseman Kate Jasinski walked to load the bases.  First baseman Grace Ashley hit a grounder to second and was thrown out at first base but Racine scored to tie the game.   Senior center fielder Jace Jasinski had a perfectly placed double to score two runs and was stranded at second.

Sophomore Malia Hunt started the game in the pitching circle recording one strikeout. 4 walks and 7 hits  in 3 plus innings.  Hunt could not get an out in the 4th inning.  Maple River opened the inning with 5 successive batters reaching base, 4 by hits and one walk.  That's when Coach Viland brought in 8th grader Kate Trump.  Trump was greeted by sophomore Ava Hermanson's 2 RBI double that closed the book on Hunt.  Trump would only allow one more run the rest of the way.

Maple River has no seniors on their team.  Junior Ella Sohre went the distance in the pitching circle throwing 119 pitches, 74 strikes with 7 strikeouts, 2 walks and 6 hits allowed.

After moving to center field following her pitching Hunt made some not so easy running catches and held one of the Eagles to a single after she hammered the ball off the fence in center.

Our Faribault State Farm Insurance agents Faribault players of the game were Hunt, Trump, Menard, Jace Jasinski, Viland and Kate Jasinski.  Trump played a flawless shortstop before moving to the pitching circle, Menard had a double and was on base two of her three times up.  Jace Jasinski high the 2 RBI double in the 4th, Viland collected two hits and Kate Jasinski made a couple nice plays at third base while getting on base two of the three times she was at the plate.

Maple River improved to 7-6 while Bethlehem Academy dropped to 2-10.  The Eagles host United South Central Thursday and travel to Sleepy Eye St. Mary's Friday.

The Cardinals are at Hayfield Friday then are scheduled to play in Preston Saturday at 1:00 p.m. against Fillmore Central.
