Bethlehem Academy held New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva scoreless the first 4:12 of the second half to pull away with a 59-44 victory tonight at Van Orsow Auditorium.

The last time the teams hooked up in New Richland the Panthers were 56-53 victors.  NR-H-E-G opened the game 5-0 before Cardinals Head Coach Scott Trump took a timeout.  Whatever he said worked because BA then went on a 16-3 run.

Cats have nine lives right?  The Panthers did take a one point lead with under a minute to go in the half but sophomore Reagan Kangas connected on a three point basket to give BA a 23-21 first half lead.

Both teams are very young with mostly sophomores on the floor.

The Cardinals offense was efficient with a great combination of the inside and outside game.  Eight three point baskets and 22 points in the paint.

After extending their lead in the second half to 21 points NR-H-E-G started getting hot from three point range and shaved the margin to 13 before the Cardinals punched it back up following their own three point parade.

Kate Trump hit three from the left "Trump Corner."  Mercedes Huerta , Malia Hunt and Reagan Kangas added one each in the second half.

Bethlehem Academy finished the game with 8 three point baskets, New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva had 7.

The Panthers were led offensively by sophomore Sidney Schultz with 16 points, freshman Hallie Schultz added 9 points,

BA had terrific balance offensively.  Huerta led the way with 16 points, Hunt, Trump and Josie Rose each had 9 points, LIndsay Hanson and Kangas finished with 8 points each.

Hunt is the only senior on the Cardinals team.  NR-H-E-G only has two seniors.

Sophomore Lindsay Hanson received our Cashwise Foods and Pharmacy of Owatonna Delivery of the Game award thanks to some impressive interior passing.

Huerta was our choice for the Malecha's Auto Body of Faribault Crunch Time Player of the Game.

Both teams are now 2-7 in Gopher Conference games.  Bethlehem Academy is 2-8 overall and NR-H-E-G is 4-8.

The Panthers go to Medford Friday then host league leading Blooming Prairie.  The Cardinals are in Hayfield Thursday and at Kenyon-Wanamingo Monday night.
