In a recent survey for National Potato Day (tomorrow Aug 19 by the way) each US state's residents were asked to share what their favorite type of potato dish was. There was of course states that listed mashed potatoes, different types of fries (curly, cheese, crinkle cut, steak, etc), baked potatoes, and of course sweet potatoes. One state that will remain anonymous, hint it's located directly to our south, said onion rings...Minnesota on the other hand claimed Hasselback potatoes as it's the favorite way to enjoy a spud.

I asked around the office, who has heard of Hasselback potatoes? I was greeted with blank stares. So I gave it a Google and this is what I got.

This Swedish side dish gets its name from Hasselbacken, the Stockholm restaurant where it was first served. The seasoned potatoes turn out crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Almost like thick potato chips, but all still connected at the base.

Here is what they look like.

Zippia.com conducted the survey of potato favorites by "using Google Trends, to determine which states were the most avid fans of each potato dish. Zippia.com examined 40 different favorite potato concoctions, covering the most common and beloved dishes, including the fried favs, the covered potato-dishes brought to family gatherings, and a range of yummy potato sides. This ended up bring a pretty comprehensive list of potato dishes."

At the end of the day when asked about a favorite way to enjoy a potato, Minnesotans went with an actual potato dish, however unheard of it is, rather than go with well...
