Target has done a few of these car seat recycling events before but now Walmart is hopping on the bandwagon. Starting today, you can trade in a car seat and get a $30 Walmart gift card to use online or in-store for baby purchases.

KARE 11 reports that the limit is 2 car seats per household and that boosters are not eligible. Also, not all Walmarts are participating, so make sure to call ahead of time. You can bring car seats to be recycled at Walmart between now and September 30th at the service desk in-store.

In order to do this program, Walmart teamed up with a recycling company called TerraCycle. They takes items that are usually hard to recycle that typically end up in the trash. KARE 11 writes that Tom Szaky, TerraCycle CEO and Founder, said in the statement, “Through the Walmart Car Seat Recycling Program, traditionally non-recyclable car seats are now nationally recyclable. Through this event, we expect to divert the plastic equivalent of approximately 35 million water bottles from landfills.” That's amazing!
