One of the most common questions land owners have at this time of year is what is the price of land rent? There is some land that is rented for multiyear contracts but many farms are rented on yearly contracts. Typically the contract ends after the crop is harvested. Then as soon as possible after harvest farmers will apply fertilizer and do fall tillage for next years crop. However, a farmer needs to know that he is going to be farming the land next year.

To help farmers and land owners determine what is a fair rental rate again this year the University of Minnesota Extension Service will be sponsoring two Land Rent Meetings on Friday November 22, 2019. One will be in Faribault from 9:30 to 11:30 in the 4-H Building on the Rice County Fairgrounds and the other in the afternoon from 1:30 to 3:30 at the Steele County Community Center.

David Bau Extension Educator in Farm business Management will present averages, examples and worksheets to help farmers and land owners determine what is a fair land rent for 2020. RSVP's are requested but not required. Contact Claire La Canne at the Rice or Steele County Extension Office.
