The Dakota County Sheriff's Office posted this morning about an incident that deputies responded to 'recently' about a car being parked on a railroad track in Southeastern Dakota County. According to the social media post, "Recently our Patrol Deputies responded to a car parked on the railroad track in southeast Dakota County. When the deputies arrived, they saw one of our worst fears, a vehicle stopped on the tracks and a train coming down the line. Unfortunately, we were unable to clear the vehicle before the train hit it. Fortunately, the lone occupant survived with only minor injuries. Unfortunately (again) the driver was suspected of being under the influence. [Moral] of the story, please don’t drink and drive."

Just wow. You have to feel for everyone in this report, the responding deputies had to be feeling somewhat helpless with a vehicle on the tracks and a train coming, and the person who ultimately came out of the situation with what was described as 'minor injuries'.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol's year-to-date through August numbers "15430 motorists were arrested for DWI so far in 2020 (January-August), compared with 18,688 in 2019."
