Back to the '80s is the theme for the annual Pet Parade to be held in Faribault on Thursday, August 4. So guys, find your '80s clothes, girls bring back that Olivia Newton John, "Physical" look and get your pets ready.

Seriously you don't need a pet to join in. The first parade was in 1931. It was originally designed to be a distraction from the problems of the Great Depression. According to the Faribault News, Jill Strodtman, youth recreation coordinator for Faribault Parks and Recreation, said it's the greatest thing ever done for the kids.

People who want to participate in floats or larger wagons must register for the parade by calling (507) 334-2064 before Aug. 1.

Participants also may choose to enter into specific categories for the parade, including costumes, wagons, cats, dogs, unusual animals, farm animals, horses, bikes, scooters, rollerblades, carts, battery-powered vehicles, clowns, rabbits and strollers.

The parade itself starts on the corner of Second Avenue Northwest and Ninth Street Northwest and goes along Second Avenue Northwest to Central Park, where participants can socialize after the parade and enjoy free popsicles.
