An investigation determined the victim responded to his dog being hit by a car by trying to remove his pet from the roadway. That is when he was struck by a second vehicle.

A news release says the driver who struck the man stopped immediately and tried to assist the victim. Officials also indicate the motorist is cooperating with investigators and it does not appear alcohol or drugs were a contributing factor in the tragedy.
