140 MPH Chase in East-Central Minnesota
Rush City, MN (KROC-AM News) - Authorities in east-central Minnesota have released information about an extremely high-speed chase that occurred last weekend.
The Chisago County Sheriff’s Office says its deputies were alerted late last Saturday night that a possible stolen vehicle involved in a pursuit on the west side of the Twin Cities had entered their jurisdiction and was being tracked by a State Patrol aircraft. The deputies were told the vehicle had been traveling at 140 miles per hour and passing vehicles on the shoulder even after the ground chase had been terminated.
The Chisago County deputies, along with North Branch Police attempted to intercept the car on I-35 but were unable to keep up with it. The law officers did catch up with the car after it exited the freeway in Rush City and eventually forced it into a ditch and arrested the driver. Ironically, The officials say the arrest took place next to the entrance road to the Rush City State Prison.
A news release says the driver, who was already wanted on felony arrest warrants, was caught with a loaded and stolen handgun, about $3200 cash and a large amount of methamphetamine.
