The Minnesota State Fair and Minnesota Farm Bureau are recognizing 131 Minnesota farms as Century Farms in 2018! Qualification is quite simple, farms must be at least 50 acres or more and have been in continuous family ownership for at least 100 years. Occasionally we have a Sesquicentennial Farm, yes I did have to look up how to spell it, but I knew it meant 150 years. A farm owned by a family for 100 or 150 years is no small feat! Congratulations to all past and present Century and Sesquicentennial Farms in Minnesota!

Century Farm families receive a commemorative sign, and a certificate signed by the Minnesota State Fair, Minnesota Farm Bureau President Kevin Paap, and Governor Mark Dayton. The Century Farm Program began in 1976. Since then more than 10,000 Minnesota Farms have been recognized as Century Farms. Many of the counties in our area recognize Century Farms during their County Fairs. In Rice County it is part of the Rice County Agriculture Hall of Fame Program that is held on Wednesday morning during the Rice County Fair.
