The Minnesota Department of Agriculture announced today that it is accepting applications for Value Added Grants. There is $1 million available for equipment purchases or physical improvements through the Agriculture Growth, Research and Innovation Program. A number of different types of business have been funded like wineries, processing facilities, food and feed manufacturers, meat processors and creameries. Producers and handlers that increase the value of Agricultural products through manufacturing may also be eligible.

This is a competitive grant process that can fund projects that diversify markets, increase sales or improve food safety. Applications will be open until March 16, 2017. If you would like more information go to the Minnesota Department of Agriculture web site or call Ann Kuzj at 651-201-6028. You can also email Ann: ann.kuzj@state.mn.us. I know many times you see something like this is a competitive application process and you think, I am not going to take the time to apply because I have little chance of getting the grant. The news release had a number of business in Minnesota that did get the grant in previous rounds. Why not try?
