Though perhaps not a breakout mystery success in the vein of 'LOST,' HBO's Damon Lindelof-fronted 'The Leftovers' has raptured plenty of attention in its first seven episodes. Now, with its inaugural season set to come to a close in just a few weeks' time, the pay cable network is officially coming back for seconds, granting 'The Leftovers' a season 2 renewal for 2015.

For those unfamiliar with the series, HBO’s ‘The Leftovers’ follows those left behind on Earth after a "departure" of sorts sees 2% of the world's population vanishing into thin air with no explanation whatsoever. Adapted from Tom Perrotta’s 2009 novel of the same name, the show’s pilot was directed by Peter Berg (‘Lone Survivor‘).

'The Leftovers’ stars Justin Theroux, Liv Tyler, Christopher Eccleston, Carrie Coon, Ann Dowd, Amanda Warren, Chris Zylka, Margaret Qualley, Michael Gaston, Max Carver, Charlie Carver, Annie Q, Paterson Joseph, Brad Leland, ‘Private Practice‘ vet Amy Brenneman, and ‘Fringe‘ star Emily Meade.

Says HBO of the 2015 renewal for 'The Leftovers' season 2:

We are thrilled to bring back 'The Leftovers' for a second season with the exceptional talents of Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrotta. It has been truly exciting to see the overwhelming response to their provocative and original storytelling. We look forward to continuing the journey as the show delves deeper into the lives of those who remain.

We can understand why 'The Leftovers' hasn't exactly proven a breakout hit with viewers, considering its exceptionally dour subject material, but we remain glad to see the intriguing drama given another year to find its focus. We've included a trailer for this Sunday's "Cairo" below, but what say you? Are you excited to see HBO renewing 'The Leftovers' for season 2 in 2015?
