This is what I saw Sunday afternoon when I got out to the farm. Watching the radar Friday I knew the snowstorm got close to the farm. We received about 2 inches of snow, which made for ice-covered roads. We did get lucky though as I talked to my family in Sioux Falls, S.D., on Friday afternoon. They had already gotten 15 inches of snow by 5 in the afternoon! Maybe it is selfish but my first thought was better them than us!

I wanted to go out to check the corn and beans. All you do is climb into the bin and make sure the grain is not heating or forming a crust. I also wanted to take a truck load out of my corn bin. When you fill it, any cracked kernels of corn stay in the middle of the bin. The whole kernels move to the outside of the pile as you fill the bin. When you run the fan the air moves around the core with the fine and broken kernels.  This is an ideal spot for the corn to start heating. By pulling a load out you remove most of the fines so you can aerate the grain properly.
