I know today is the official start of the Christmas holiday shopping season. I am sure it has been for quite some time as many people have today off after Thanksgiving. I am not sure how long ago we began to call the Friday after Thanksgiving Black Friday. There is no question a lot of marketing was involved to get people into malls and stores.

I also know there are a lot of great sale prices and loss leaders available today. I suspect I enjoy a bargain more than most people. However, standing in a line for hours, putting up with traffic jams and long checkout lines is not my idea of a fun day. If I was going shopping today I would shop in Faribault. I don't think I would have to stand outside in a line waiting to get into the store or fight traffic to get there!

What am I doing today on Black Friday? I am heading to the wide open spaces! Yes I am going out to the farm to haul beans. The markets close at about noon today so it is a great day to get a few loads of beans to the elevator. Plus, it is supposed to be a nice day with highs about 40 degrees and sunshine this afternoon. On top of that, typically no one else is hauling the day after Thanksgiving. That means no waiting to unload at the elevator!
