A 70-year-old Morristown Township man was injured when his single-engine experimental plane crashed shortly after takeoff on his property.

Rice County Sheriff Troy Dunn joined KDHL live during the 5:05PM report and noted the call came in about 1:50PM and, in addition to his deputies, Morristown Fire/Rescue, Morristown Police and North Ambulance were all dispatched to the scene.

Dunn also responded and said Delbert Voegele was outside the plane and was treated at the scene and then airlifted to St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester for more treatment. Dunn said Voegele did talk to emergency responders and told them the plane had mechanical issues and crashed into a pasture on the north side of his property.

Dunn added the plane suffered extensive damage to its front and the Federal Aviation Administration was called in to investigate.

The Rice County Sheriff told KDHL it was not the first time he's been at the scene of a crash involving the longtime pilot, but it may have been Voegele's most serious crash landing.
