I took these pictures Saturday afternoon of my second crop beans after peas. When I planted them on July 15, I knew I was taking a chance as it was very late in the growing season. At this point I am pleased with their development and feel I still have a chance of being able to harvest some beans. For the late planting there are a lot of pods with three little beans that are starting to develop.

There is no question that I need another month or more of warm sunshine before a killing frost. But, we got through September 10-15. My grandfather always said if you can get through that time frame, many times it will then be later on in October before you see a frost. There is always a full moon at that time and I guess that somehow affects the weather. However it turns out at least there is a crop growing in the field and not weeds! Plus, there will be some crop residue to protect the soil from erosion.
