It was a busy day Saturday! In the morning I was at the Goodhue County Pork Producers food stand, then over to the Goodhue County 4-H Livestock Auction and later Saturday up to the Dakota County Fair. I had some 4-H interviews to do at the Dakota County Fair and at 5PM it was over to the open class food building. For a number of years I have been the "official" BBQ judge! By the way, I did not eat all the food. After the contest everyone could get a sample of each entry!

Olive Huff is in charge of the open class food building at the Dakota County Fair. I always say, it's not what you know but who you know. Sometime I know the right people because Olive asked me to be a judge. The contestants must prepare their BBQ at the Dakota County Fair. After the judging I talk with the winners about how they prepared their beef, pork or poultry and what is unique about it. Many times it is a family recipe passed down for generations. This year we only had two contestants; some years there have been many more. It was quite warm and humid Saturday afternoon so I suspect that may have kept some from coming to the fair.
