Our neighbors from the Northfield Chamber will be stopping by the KDHL studio today to discuss all the happenings in Northfield. The program starts at 9:30AM.

The largest all-volunteer event in Minnesota is the Defeat of Jesse James Days in Northfield and that happens next weekend. In fact, next Thursday, September 8, Lynn Ziegler and others will be stopping by to go more in depth into DJJD activities.

Northfield has the distinction of having two nationally acclaimed colleges call their community home. St. Olaf College and Carleton College are just across the Cannon River from each other.

The community is probably most well known for the famous September 7, 1876, attempted robbery of the First National Bank by the James-Younger gang. When the holdup was discovered by local citizens, they armed themselves and a seven-minute battle erupted.

After it was over, two robbers lay dead in the street and the remaining six outlaws fled the community while a bank teller was killed inside.

It is that "extraordinary courage and independent spirit of these townspeople that is honored the weekend after Labor Day each year during Defeat of Jesse James Days in Northfield."

The above quote was taken from a Northfield Visitor's Guide brochure.

If you can't tune in at 9:30AM, then go to our YouTube channel and watch at your convenience.
