The Kenyon-Wanamingo baseball team captured their first Hiawatha Valley League Blue Division title with a 7-2 win over the Triton Cobras on Friday night.

Senior Drew Sathrum struggled with his control early, but struck out four of the final seven batters he faced and only allowed three hits in the victory. He threw 108 pitches with 64 for strikes, fanned seven and walked five.

Offensively, junior Jake Whipple was on base three of his four times at the plate and collected three RBI; junior Luke Rechtzigel had a two-RBI hit in the sixth. They and Sathrum were named our Held Bus Service of Kenyon Knights of the game. The line totals for the game were:

K-W had seven runs, eight hits, one error and six runners left.

Triton had two runs, three hits, three errors and seven runners left.

Earlier in the week, the Knights defeated the Hayfield Vikings 8-2 and pulled into a tie with Hayfield for the Blue Division lead. Hayfield defeated Goodhue 3-1 Friday night but Kenyon-Wanamingo won the head-to-head tiebreaker and had a better record in the Blue Division to give them the championship. The Knights were unbeaten in the Blue.

K-W will play Monday night at 7PM at Rochester's Mayo Field against the Gold Division and unbeaten Rochester Lourdes Eagles for the overall H-V-L championship. There will be admission charged at the game.

The defending Section 1 champion K-W Knights fast-pitch team opens playoff action Monday evening in Randolph and KDHL will be there to bring you that game. Coverage begins at 4:45PM.

Seedings for the West Subsection of Section 1 Class A baseball playoffs will be Sunday and Kenyon-Wanamingo has a good chance to be awarded the top seed. They would open play Thursday in Wanamingo.
