‘Jesus Take the Wheel’ Helped Woman Who Was Lost in the Woods

Would you believe a Carrie Underwood song helped a lost woman survive in the forest for eight days? It’s true for 20-year-old Washington resident Kaylean Johnson.

According to KOMO News, Johnson crashed into a ditch while riding on a motorcycle with a family friend, Patrick Frawley, in late June. After spending a night in the woods (Washington’s Little Naches Forest), she separated from Frawley to find help, but got lost along the way.

Johnson spent eight days alone in the forest, east of Chinook Pass, with no food or shelter, until a volunteer who was marking trails for the Pacific Crest Trail Association heard a cry for help. He and another man were able to locate Johnson and retrieve her from the ditch.

After being rescued, Johnson shared with KOMO News that she focused on her faith and the song “Jesus Take the Wheel” by Carrie Underwood throughout her duration in the forest.

“The song, I sing it in my heart all the time, it’s ‘Jesus Take the Wheel,’ by Carrie Underwood,” Johnson says. “I sang that song the night I went missing and when I got home, it came on the radio.”

Lyrics to the faith-inspired Underwood hit revolve around the double entendre of physical and spiritual instances: “Jesus take the wheel / Take it from my hands / Cause I can’t do this on my own / I’m letting go / So give me one more chance / Save me from this road I’m on / Jesus take the wheel.”

Johnson’s friend, Frawley, also made it out of the forest days earlier and was rushed to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
