The Faribault Falcon girls and boys basketball teams host the Northfield Raiders tonight at Nomeland Gym in a Hoops For Hope fight against cancer fundraiser.

There will be some Hoops For Hope t-shirts available for $10 (while quantity lasts) and all the proceeds are going toward Coaches vs Cancer/Relay for Life Rice County.

This year to show support they are honoring Bill Sietsema, one of the Faribault traveling basketball coaches, who is battling lung cancer.

Wear your Hoops For Hope shirt or lots of white to show your support in the fight against cancer.

Both Northfield varsity teams are ranked in the latest Minnesota Basketball News state rankings for the Associated Press. The Northfield Raider boys are 11th in Class 3A and the girls are rated 15th.

Both games will be on Power 96 Radio 95.9 FM and people can listen worldwide at www.power96radio.com just by clicking on the Listen Live button. You may also download the free RadioPup app and listen on your favorite mobile device.

Expect the girls game to be a defensive-minded contest.

Northfield ranks tops in the Big Nine giving up 34.3 points per game and Faribault is fifth in the league with a defensive scoring average of 44.

So far the 3-0 Raiders are scoring an average of 53.7 points per contest while the Falcons are averaging 48.7 offensively.

Coverage begins at 5:45PM for the girls game on Power 96 Radio 95.9 FM. The boys game will follow with a brief break between game on the radio.

The Northfield boys are 2-0 and this will be Faribault's first game of this season. The Raiders have victories over Byron 69-60 and Albert Lea 71-45.

Northfield advanced all the way to the Section championship last year before losing to Red Wing 67-51 and 6-foot-4 senior forward Hunter Koep is listed by Minnesota Basketball News as one of the top 100 high school boys players in Minnesota.

The Raiders finished last season with a 19-10 record. Faribault finished last season with a 14-14 mark and, after winning their first playoff game 73-51 over Mankato West, fell in the Section semifinals to Marshall 55-29.
