Last Saturday I went out to the farm to spray my soybeans and had to take this picture. For a number of years after we had the Round-Up Ready Technology we relied on killing the weeds in the growing crop. Round-Up was very effective at controlling all the weeds. Well, after following the same practice for a number of years some of the weeds were developing a tolerance or resistance to Round-Up. Weed Scientists warned farmers about this possibility and were recommending putting a herbicide on early to prevent the weeds from growing in the first place. Than you would follow up with another herbicide when the beans were growing to clean up any escape weeds. Well, when I sprayed this field the sweetcorn was already up.  The herbicide I was using on the soybeans would have killed the sweetcorn so I left a couple rows of beans right next to the sweetcorn. Notice all the weeds in the beans  next to the sweetcorn that did not get the early herbicide application. The whole bean field would have looked like that, loaded with weeds!!!
