The Goodhue Wildcats are a game away from the Class A state championship.

The Wildcats breezed in a 74-35 semifinal win over Wheaton/Herman-Norcross with running time used for the second straight game.

Goodhue 5-foot-8 junior guard Maddy Miller scored 24 points in 28 minutes with 20 in the first half and told KDHL after the game she's simply having fun and everyone on the team is doing their job.

Miller said, "I really enjoy watching the reserves get in and playing well."

I told Miller it's pretty rare for a team to have back-to-back running time games in back-to-back state tournament games.

Five-foot-10 sophomore Sydney Lodermeier scored 18 points and had five rebounds in 29 minutes for the Wildcats and 5-foot-8 senior Taylor Larson and 5-foot-6 sophomore Emily Benrud each added nine points in the lopsided win.

Goodhue scored 35 points off 31 Warrior turnovers and collected 40 points in the paint. That's been the winning formula for the Wildcats -- pressure defense and transition points.

In the quarterfinal game with Sacred Heart, the Wildcats had a 14-0 lead to start and although it took a little longer for the commanding lead Wheaton/Herman-Norcross did not even get a shot at the basket in their first four possessions of the semifinal game.

Maddy Miller had 20 points and Sydney Lodermeier 16 for Goodhue in the first half as they led 50-25 at halftime.

Goodhue will play No. 3 seed and No. 4 rated Maranatha Christian of Brooklyn Park for the Class A championship.

The Mustangs got a put back basket off a missed free throw as time was running out in overtime to defeat No. 2 seed and No. 2 ranked Mountain Iron-Buhl.
