Faribault Fire Chief and Emergency Management Director Dusty Dienst stops by the KDHL studio to talk farm safety today. I'm sure we will also get the latest information possible on the flooding situation in the area.

The Faribault City Council, Northfield City Council and Rice County Board of Commissioners all passed resolutions declaring a state of emergency in their respective jurisdictions. The declarations must occur before any federal or state disaster money can be awarded.

Dienst also told KDHL yesterday the declaration allows him to purchase needed items to fight the flooding without going out for bids in the interest of saving time.

Within a couple of hours yesterday, Faribault had a temporary dike built to keep water away from the Water Reclamation Plant. Barricades are up and police crime scene tape around areas near the Second Avenue bridge near the Faribault Woolen Mill and Faribault Foods plant to indicate its closure.

Dienst was originally scheduled to be on today's program to discuss farm safety during this National Farm Safety Week. We hope to tackle combine fires, grain bin safety and manure pits and Dienst told me he would be armed with some other information for the show.

If you can't tune in live at 9:30AM, watch the program later at www.youtube.com/user/KDHLRadio
