Typically the Faribault Chamber of Commerce Agribusiness Committee meets at noon the first Thursday of every month. I was a little late today and I had to get a chair from Kymn's office. We have a number of new members, which is very exciting! There are only a handful of Chambers in Minnesota that have an Agribusiness Committee. Our goal is quite simple: to promote and educate about agriculture. There are a number of events we do each year to try and achieve that goal.

In March we will begin the Ag In the Classroom, or Adopt a 3rd Grade Class. We go into the third-grade classes in Faribault with items from the grocery store that students will recognize along with a bag of corn and soybeans. In addition we have pictures of some of the machinery and equipment we use. We try and relate the grocery items back to corn and soybeans growing in the fields just outside of Faribault. Then early in April we bus the students out to visit a farm with livestock.

Another great event is the Best of the Best the Rice County Hall of Fame. This program is held on the Wednesday morning of the Rice County Fair. The morning begins with a free breakfast and the program follows, which I broadcast live on KDHL. The other big event is the Farm Business Luncheon in Faribault the Thursday before Thanksgiving. It was great to be at the meeting today with many new members and new ideas about how to improve the things we do. Why not join us? If you would like more information, let me know!
