Faribault's director of community marketing, Nort Johnson, will stop by the KDHL studios to be the guest on AM Minnesota today.

We will touch on the Explore Minnesota survey of hotel, resort and campground owners, which determined the state had its best summer travel season since 2008.

Was that true locally?

Explore Minnesota director John Edman believes a main factor was favorable weather and good economic conditions. He did, however, acknowledge businesses in some areas were challenged this summer. The Brainerd Lakes area where storm damage temporarily shut down some resorts and in the Mille Lacs area where the walleye fishing season ended early.

The Faribault Chamber Agri-Business Committee is involved in a special event at Central Park this Saturday. Faribault Farmers Market Family Day will take place with fun for the whole family. There will be face painting for the kids and free 4-H activities, and the Chamber will hand out free kids activity books.

The Rice County Department of Health will provide free reusable Faribault Farmers Market bags. There will be free honey, maple syrup and goat soap demonstrations.

The Know-How Brewshop will provide free homemade yogurt samples and demonstrate do-it-yourself techniques.

There will be an ugliest and largest fruit and vegetable contest among the vendors.

The University of Minnesota Extension will provide some free games, recipes, newsletters on canning and freezing fruits and vegetables.

Taste of Faribault is just around the corner, and I'm sure Johnson will touch on that, although Barb Larson from the Faribault Chamber will be with us Friday to deliver more information on that tasty event.

Tune in at 9:30AM and be informed.
