I really appreciate the efforts that the city of Faribault has put into the planters in downtown Faribault. Many downtowns are storefronts, concrete and asphalt. The hanging flowers, iron fences with trees and shrubs really look nice in the summertime. There is something special about seeing living plants in the downtown area. . Maybe I appreciate it more because that is what I do as a farmer. With a lot of help I grow plants. I think I enjoy looking at those planters as much as looking at a nice corn or bean field.

I did have to chuckle the other day when I noticed this weed growing in the planter across the street from the studio. Yes, that is a buttonweed. Some farmers refer to it as elephant ear. Before we had all the herbicides we do today, I pulled many of them out of our soybean field one by one. Maybe someone knew I always park by this planter and actually planted a buttonweed to make me feel right at home!
