Billy Currington Calls His Experience at St. Jude an ‘Eye-Opener’

Like so many country stars, Billy Currington remembers expecting his first St. Jude visit to be depressing — they are treating sick kids after all, he figured. If there’s one lesson to remember from Taste of Country’s two-day webathon, however, it’s that that couldn’t be further from the truth.

“What an experience it was,” Currington says in the video above, urging fans to become Partners in Hope for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. “A big eye-opener!”

“The kids were in there having the time of their life,” he adds.

For over 25 years, country artists have made regular visits to the world renowned hospital in Memphis, Tenn. Some bring their guitars, others draw or just talk to boys and girls of all ages. They end up getting as much out of the experience as the kids who are excited to meet their favorite stars.

“What a blessing it is for them to even have that opportunity to go in a place like that,” Currington says, admitting he’s a big fan of the treatment and research done at the hospital.

Taste of Country has pressed pause in an effort to raise money for St. Jude. For 25 years country radio, artists and record labels have helped raise more than $500 million, ensuring that no one ever pays a dime for treatment at St. Jude.

“No child should die in the dawn of life,” founder Danny Thomas once said. Help make that wish a reality by making a donation or becoming a Partner in Hope when you click the button below. Donations can be made by phone at 800-411-9898.
